A Hikayat Ripped
June-July 2019
Layered archival digital print 30"x 20"
My tribute to stories and tales from old Malay literature. "Hikayat" is term borrowed from Arabic to mean stories. They are usually long form sagas or romanticised accounts of heroes, kings, princes and magical deeds, originally transmitted orally or performed in shadow plays. Hikayat Malim Deman (author unknown) is one such tale.
Each piece is "work in progress", neither mounted nor framed and invites the viewer to flip a layer to see what lies beneath. As such, they remain open for modification and addition.
