I have lost count of the number of TV commercials I directed – somewhere in between 750 to nearly a thousand, I think. I've done shampoos, detergents, lubricants, junk food, cat food, toilet paper, sanitary napkins, luxury cars, you name it. Also stuff most people don't need. Most were embarrassingly blatant, annoying and downright silly.
But the job paid the bills.
These, however, are my favourite TV ads. Not because they are good or award winners or loved by the clients but because they were wonderful to work on: the production team, the cast, the locations – in other words, the whole directorial experience. These bring back sweet, funny and beautiful memories that I will always treasure.
